Bernard Calls it Quits

bernard_liautaud.jpgI heard Bernard Liautaud received a well-deserved standing ovation at the final standalone Business Objects sales kickoff a couple of weeks ago. With today’s news of his resignation it became even more appropriate. Bernard’s been at the helm of Business Objects from day one and the company has consistently been a leader in the traditional on-premise business intelligence / data warehousing market since it was was founded. With the recent SAP-ification of Business Objects, he points out that the BI industry is at a tipping point. I couldn’t agree more!

The need for actionable information has definitely become, as Bernard says, “pervasive across enterprises large and small,” but the reality for most companies continues to be something quite different. Bernard and Business Objects have helped make BI a top “technology priority for CIOs. Now it’s time for simple-to-set up, simple-to-use, and simple-to-buy business analytics to become a top business priority (and actual reality) for all employees (not just IT and analysts). It’s time for a new wave of analytic innovation that will break down the barriers to traditional BI adoption and deliver actionable information to the people who actually make decisions without the pains typically associated with data integration, data quality, data migration, and on-premise data warehousing.

Thanks for all of the work you’ve done over the years to move the BI industry forward Bernard. I’m sure we haven’t heard the last from you!
