SaaS Lists and Early Predictions
Every day I see a new list of things to think about related to software as a service and enterprise 2.0. Here are a few of the more interesting lists I’ve seen recently:
- 5 Tenants of SaaS Integration
- 9 Things You Need to Know About SaaS
- Top 10 Challenges Facing Enterprise Mashups
- Top 10 Management Fears about Enterprise 2.0
And it seems that the industry pundits have taken a cue this year from the Christmas advertisers. Earlier this month Gartner identified their Top 10 Strategic Technologies for 2008. Here’s what they have to say about #7 in the press release - “Web Platform & WOA”:
“Software as a service (SaaS) is becoming a viable option in more markets and companies must evaluate where service based delivery may provide value in 2008-2010. Meanwhile Web platforms are emerging which provide service-based access to infrastructure services, information, applications, and business processes through Web based “cloud computing” environments. Companies must also look beyond SaaS to examine how Web platforms will impact their business in 3-5 years.”
I guess WOA stands for Web-Oriented Applications. Likelihood that this acronym won’t last until the end of 2008? I’d say about 70%.
