Cognos Buys Applix
In the race to become the next Computer Associates, Cognos took a shot across the Business Objects bow today and acquired one of the last legacy financial budgeting and planning (aka Performance Management) companies today. They bought Applix, who last time I checked have their own proprietary OLAP server that was always a favorite of Nigel Pendse and Richard Creeth over at the OLAP Report . Craig Schiff supports the announcement here and Nigel has updated his fantastic BI consolidation chart here.
Strategic growth through acquisition continues in the traditional on-premise BI market. Who will be next?
