Oracle Doesn’t Get SaaS
Don’t miss this great post by Phil Wainwright on Oracle’s misconveived SaaS strategy. He takes issue with these 4 assertions from Oracle president Charles Phillips:
- Customers want to replicate data
- Multitenancy doesn’t matter
- Customers want to own software
- SaaS is just a hosting option
I suspect we’ll hear similar messages promoting a hybrid approach to software-as-a-service coming from SAP on September 19th when they launch A1S. (By the way, does anybody think it’s a coincidence they picked the last day of Dreamforce to introduce their new on-demand ERP suite?)
To understand why these and other on-premise software vendors won’t be promoting a pure on-demand model any time soon, check out this article by Rick Whiting on the cash-cow that is enterprise software maintenance fees.
And be sure to start here if you want to find out why LucidEra has been called “a disruptive force” in the business intelligence market.
